August in Labin and Rabac

Rabac waterfront, 8 - 11 PM
The Statute of the City of Labin, which was adopted on 17 August, 1341, had been in force for as long as five hundred years. In memory of it, Labin continues to celebrate its day through numerous events. The traditional Art Labin (Labinski uzlet likovnosti) celebrates 20 years of exhibiting artists from Labin by presenting a monograph and the opening of the exhibition on 12 August at 8 PM at the town loggia. Famous Croatian singer Maja Šuput is in charge for a good time and a lot of dance, performing live on 13 August from 8 PM on the main square in the old town. Traditionally, on the Feast of the Assumption on 15 August 15, a hiking tour from the old town to Skitača starts at 8 AM. On 16 August, Matko Brajša Rašan Labin Primary Art School treats its town with a festive concert, which begins at 9 PM in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the old town.
Feel the romantic spirit of Rabac summer evening at a concert by klapa (a group of men/women singing a cappella) Rišpet from Split. The award-winning klapa led by Ivo Amulić will take you on a romantic journey on the Adriatic with their hits: Fališ mi, Lumin and Prsti zapleteni. Get to know the tradition of klapa songs, symbols of Croatian coastal towns and islands, in the unique ambience of the natural beauty of Rabac bay.

As part of the jubilee 40th Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium at Dubrova Park, home to ninety-four sculptures made by famous Croatian and international artists, from Raul Goldoni and Dušan Džamonja to Marija Ujević and Joost Barbiers, until 5 August, you will be able to see a sculpture ‘Tower of Views’ being made by Božica Dea Matasić, award winner of the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium Dubrova at XI Croatian Sculpture Triennial. The stately 3 m high sculpture that is under construction from mid-July, will be composed of cut layers of circularly cut stone slabs with matching diameters, creating the impression of lightness and dynamic, approaching the traditional sculpture material in an unusual way and bringing a component of Istrian kažun (dry-stone building) construction. In the amphitheatre of the mythical grove at the end of the baroque country- estate once owned by the 17th century Labin patrician family Franković, on 7 August at 9 PM enjoy the concert by Labin singer and songwriter Elis Lovrić.
The park is located at the entrance to Labin, on the main road Labin - Rijeka, next to restaurant Dubrova. Admission is free.

This August classical music fans can enjoy a rich program of Classical Summer in Labin. On 3 August Vitomir Ivanjek on piano will take you through time. Once Croatian pop star, now a renowned jazz singer Vesna Pisarović, on 10 August will perform live in concert Petit Standard, accompanied by John Betsch on drums and Chris Dahlgren on double bass. On 17 August, Vladimir Mlinarić and Jakša Zlatar piano duo will perform, while pianist Jelena Tihomirović and flutist Metod Sironić will take you through the evening of sonatas and one fantasy on 24 August.
All concerts are held at 9 PM at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the old town of Labin.
