The Baroque palace Negri, located in the Old town at 11 Giuseppina Martinuzzi, once belonged to the homonymous family who moved from the vicinity of Bergamo (Italy) to Labin in 1512. The first member of the Negri family who settled in Istria was Giovanni Antonio, a banker and businessman, and from the very arrival the Negris enjoyed privileges and affection from the Venetian podestàs. Family Negri dealt with timber and agricultural products’ trade, hunting and fishing. At the end of the 16th and in the early 17th century its members owned nine town houses, three mills and several smaller estates. Over a period of time, the palace housed a hospital, followed by a maternity and school. Today it houses the Art&Gastro Gallery Negri run by the top Labin olive grower William Negri and his wife, artist Anessa Negri. There are not many tourists in Rabac who missed a boat trip on historical motor boat Duboka and enjoyed with her merry crew led by the Captain Petar Koroljević, Labin guitar teacher. Excursion trabaccoló (sailing coaster) Duboka was built on the island of Hvar back in 1886. It is designed with the so-called ‘pipe eyes’ and was the pride of the whole island. For years, a symbol of Stari Grad on the isle of Hvar, Duboka has served to farmers, fishermen and Hvar winery. However, due to financial difficulties of the owner she had to be sold. Four years ago Duboka left her native island and sailed to Rabac where she recently celebrated her 130th birthday.
