On St. Lucy’s Day, 13 December, take a walk down the trail dedicated to the saint patroness of the village of Skitača on the southernmost part of the Labin peninsula. Learn about the legend of the miraculous water of the patroness of the eyes and eyesight, to whom the parish, as well as the 16th-century church in the center of the village is dedicated to. The legend says that St. Lucy asked the locals to raise her church there. They kept postponing her request, so the saint climbed to the nearby hill, sat on the rock, cried, and tired and sad she fell asleep. When she woke up in the morning, she noticed a rich water well nearby (called školnica in the local dialect) so she washed her face. Since then, the well has never dried up, and many pilgrims, including the blind and the visually impaired pay a visit to this place. The well is located on the outskirts of the village, near Brdo hill top, with panoramic views of the islands of Cres and Lošinj, Cape Kamenjak and the River Raša mouth. On the other side of the village a five-minute-walk from the mountain house leads to Orlić hill top (470 m), offering the most beautiful view of Labin, Rabac, Učka and the whole Kvarner bay. You can have a rest in one of the most beautiful mountain houses in Croatia led by the Skitaci Mountaineering Club from Labin.
